Places To Visit in Cincinnati Ohio
I had the pleasure of visiting Cincinnati about a year ago, and have meant to write this article for some time. Located on the border of Ohio and Kentucky, this city provides plenty of fun things to do if you know where to look. It is a great family vacation destination no matter what time of the year you go, and there is plenty to do in the spring as well as summer.
Fountain square, in the heart of the city, is home to many great attractions and restaurants. In the winter, there is an ice skating rink that is available for a modest fee. You can also visit McCormicks and Schmick’s, a seafood restaurant that critics have hailed as one of the best in Cincinnati. This is actually a nationwide chain that is available in over 20 states across the US.
Every year in March brings Cincinnati the Barnen and Baileys Circus, which includes high-flying acts and performers from 6 continents. In 2011, this circus will take place on the middle of march, so be sure to keep your calendar marked. You can also visit the creation museum, which is home to a “walk through history”. You can literally start with the beginning of the earth, see when the dinosaurs flourished, and go all the way up to modern-day science. There is also free admittance to the nearby petting zoo for all kids once you buy a ticket to the museum.
For those kids that just can’t sit still, you can bring them to the CoCo Water park, one of the largest indoor water parks in the country. Open year-round, this water park is home to rides such as “shark slam” and “gator gush”. There is also a sauna and spa at the facility, so you can unwind while the kids play.
There is also the nearby Cincinnati zoo, voted on of the top 10 best for kids. Open daily from 9 am – 6 pm, see wildlife from around the world, including lizards, snakes, pandas, and giraffes. This non-profit museum also houses plant life from 6 continents, and their daily rates are unbeatable.
For the adventurous types, there is always plenty of things to do in Cincinnati. You can watch the Cincinnati Reds crush one of their opponents, or take in a hockey game with the Bengals. There are also a couple of companies that offer a cool perspective of the city, in a hot air balloon!
